Why We Built StabiArm

Hi, I’m Alex from DXonJet. Today, I want to tell you why we built StabiArm, a stabilizer for DXonJet wall printers.

The idea actually started with our customers. A few years ago, we noticed that some people were making their own stabilizers. They understood something important: when a wall printer is moving quickly, especially near the top of a tall print, extra support can help reduce movement in the vertical rail.

Our engineers saw the same opportunity. But before we made our own version, there was a problem we needed to solve.

The risk behind a rigid stabilizer

A wall is rarely perfectly flat. The distance between the printer and the wall can change as the machine travels. If a homemade stabilizer is completely rigid and has no way to absorb a big change in that distance, it may put a lot of force back into the printer. In an extreme case, that force could even push the machine off balance.

That’s why we didn’t want to simply attach an arm and call it done. We wanted controlled support, while still giving the system room to respond when the real wall doesn’t match the ideal setup.

What our printers already do well

DXonJet printers already have several ways to manage movement. For demanding jobs, we can adjust the software to give the printhead a little more settling time at the top and bottom of each pass. The overall structure helps movement settle quickly, and the heavy, precision-machined base keeps the printer moving steadily along the floor.

Those details matter because print quality comes down to where every ink droplet lands. When the machine is steady, the droplets are much more likely to land exactly where they should. We’ve relied on this approach for years, and our team and customers have put it to work on real jobs.

So what does StabiArm add?

StabiArm gives the vertical rail another point of support near the wall. A roller stays in contact with the surface while the printer moves, and a carefully selected spring helps the arm respond to small changes in distance. We chose the spring to provide useful support without putting unnecessary pressure on the wall.

There are three adjustment positions, so an operator can choose a setting that suits the wall and the job. We also built in allowance for a larger unexpected change in wall distance. That was important to us: the arm should help steady the printer without behaving like an inflexible brace.

The goal is straightforward. We want customers to maintain precise printing while working at a practical speed, particularly on high-position jobs where movement can be more noticeable. StabiArm adds support to a stable printer; it doesn’t replace careful setup or the operating guidance for the machine.

Built for DXonJet printers

We make StabiArm from precision-machined aluminum because this is equipment people will use again and again in professional environments. The construction needs to feel solid, hold its adjustment, and stand up to transport and regular work.

We designed it to work across DXonJet printer generations, including our first-generation machines from around four years ago. And because this is a piece of precision hardware, we pack it in a sturdy case with protective foam so it’s easier to store and move between jobs.

Why we built it

For me, StabiArm is a good example of how we like to develop products at DXonJet. We listen to what customers are already trying to solve. Then we look at the engineering, including the failure cases, and build something we would feel confident using ourselves.

I hope StabiArm makes your work easier and your printing more consistent. And if you have ideas after using it, please tell us. We’re always willing to listen, test, and keep improving.

Thanks for listening. I’m Alex from DXonJet, and I’ll see you in the next episode.
